Workshop on the Monte Carlo radiotherapy system PRIMO
Dosimetry and treatment planning research problems
PICTURES
Monte Carlo simulation is the state-of-the-art for the study of radiation transport problems in radiotherapy, in particular for modeling medical linear accelerators (linacs). PRIMO is a software system based on the Monte Carlo method that simulates linacs and absorbed dose distributions in external beam radiotherapy patients. The software is being used in the clinical practice, in dosimetry, and for educational and research applications. The aim of this workshop is to gather the advances in the aforementioned areas that have been achieved using PRIMO.
Participants to the workshop are encouraged to submit an abstract. Abstracts should fall in one of the areas that will be covered during the workshop, namely, treatment planning, dosimetry, algorithms and education. Submitted abstracts will be evaluated by the scientific committee. Abstracts that are accepted will be presented either in oral or in poster form, depending on the decision of the scientific committee.
During the workshop there will be sessions devoted to questions for the PRIMO authors. There will also be a round table about the future of PRIMO in which participants will express which features they would like the software system to have. The journal Radiation Oncology (impact factor 2.466) will publish a special issue based on the workshop material. Authors contributing to the workshop will be encouraged to submit their manuscripts. The guest editors of this special issue are Lorenzo Brualla and Luca Cozzi.
Participation in the workshop is free. Participants must register using this link.
